Salling Plast produces casings applicable for the joining and finishing of all types of PeHDpipes. All casings are made of Polyethylene (PeHD), therefore giving the same characteristic in both the casings and jacket pipes. Casings may be shrinkable (round/oval), welding or sliding casings.
There are three different types: straight casings, reducers and end casings.
Our standard casings range from Ø63 to Ø1200 mm, whilst large dimensions are produced after special request.
Shrinkable casings can be supplied with adhesive.
Our shrinkable casings are useable with standard jacket pipes according to EN253. It must be stated in your order if the dimension of the jacket pipe being used does not comply with standard measurements so that we can plan our production methods accordingly. Please see also measurement tables for oversized shrinkable casings.
Our casings fulfil the technical requirements stated in EN253.
Sealing For single sealing of a shrinkable casing it is recommended using either adhesive or shrinkable sleeves: In casings with dimensions up to and including Ø560 mm the adhesive can be fitted, whilst from dimensions Ø630 mm it is always sent loose on rolls of 20.5 m.
Shrinkable sleeves for casings up to and including dimension Ø560 mm can be closed, whilst from dimension Ø630 mm they are always open and with weldable closure. However, open, shrinkable sleeves can be delivered for smaller dimensions.
For double sealing of shrinkable casings, use both adhesive and shrinkable sleeves.
Insulation The different types can be supplied with different insulation: - insulation pipe, insulating half shells or a shake mix used for direct foaming.
Supplying Our shrinkable casings are as standard supplied with white foil.
We recommend that all shrinkable materials be protected with white foil or are stored covered, against sunlight and dirt.
As a rule all casings should be stored upright and shrinkable casings in a temperature not exceeding 40° C. Therefore insuring optimal usage of the casing.
Straight casings
4.1. Straight casings
Straight casings can be found in four varieties: Shrinkable, weldable, oval and sliding casings. All four varieties are for the purpose of connecting pipe ends with the same dimension.
Casings can be supplied with a V-joint for extrusion welding or with surface milling.
Mounting manuals for certain casing connections can be obtained.
Shrinkable Casings
4.1.1. Shrinkable Casings
A traditional casing that has proved its worth now for decades. Production and usage of the casing is simple and straightforward.
The best joint is made by using shrinkable casing with double sealing.
Standard lengths are 500 mm, 600 mm and 700 mm, but can be supplied in lengths to suit our customers, by way of special request.
Shrinkable casings can also be supplied with extra wall thickness and V-joint for slitting when extrusion welding is needed, and in lengths of up to 1300 mm, wrapped in foil. Other lengths can be supplied by way of special request.
Shrinkable casings with dimension ranging from Ø90 to Ø355 mm can be supplied in white jacket pipes.
Salling Plast recommend that shrinkable casings are to be supplied wrapped in foil. Shrinkable casings with fitted adhesive are always wrapped in foil to protect the casing and adhesive from sunlight and dirt. The foil is fastened with tape, which at the same time indicates the dimension.
In the case of a shrinkable casing being used as a repair casing, a V-joint milling is advised in preparation to extrusion welding.
Shrinkable casings are tested according to EN489:1994. Report can be obtained.
We expect to sand box test our shrinkable casing according to EN489:2003 within May 2005.
Mounting manuals can be obtained.
Welding Casings
4.1.2. Welding Casings
Welding casings are based on the unique characteristics of a traditional, shrinkable casing. They are welded to a jacket pipe by way of a Cu-welding band.
In principal, the joint is only a single sealing, but in-keeping with a traditional double sealing as the casing and jacket pipe are melted together to create one whole pipe. An extra advantage of using this method is that you do not need adhesive or shrinkable sleeves.
Welding casings are found in all dimensions, but Salling Plast’s standard sizes range from Ø225 to Ø1000 mm, with standard lengths of 500 mm, 600 mm and 700 mm.
Other dimensions and lengths can be supplied by way of special request.
Welding casings are tested according to EN489:2003.
Mounting manual can be obtained.
Oval Shrinkable Casing
4.1.3. Oval Shrinkable Casing
Oval shrinkable casings are in principal identical to the traditional shrinkable casings, they are just oval shaped. The casings have been specially developed for oval jacket pipes, which are used in some double pipe systems.
The standard dimensions for oval casings are Ø125, Ø160, Ø180, Ø225, Ø250, Ø315, Ø355 and Ø400 mm, all with a length of 700 mm.
Other dimensions and lengths can be supplied by way of special request.
The casings can be supplied with adhesive and foil together with shrinkable sleeves for double sealing. Furthermore, oval, shrinkable casings can come with a shake mix for insulation.
Sliding Casing
4.1.4. Sliding Casing
Sliding casings are used when a single sealing joint is acceptable; sealing options are by way of shrinkable sleeves or an equivalent material.
Standard lengths of sliding casings are 500 mm, 600 mm and 700 mm. Other lengths can be supplied by way of special request.
Direct foaming by way of a shake mix is used when using sliding casings and shrinkable sleeves as a sealing.
When using a sliding casing as a repair casing, surface milling or a V-joint is advised first, which will optimise the following mounting of the sealing material.
Reducers
4.2. Reducers
Reducer casings come in two varieties:
shrinkable reducer and sliding reducer.
Both varieties are used where a transition from one jacket pipe dimension to another occurs. The standard lengths of these are 700 mm, 900 mm and 1200 mm.
Shrinkable reducers come in three varieties depending on number of steps.
Shrinkable reducers can be supplied wrapped in foil or with adhesive and in foil. To ensure an optimal joining when using shrinkable reducers, double sealing is required. Insulation options are dependent on the sole purpose of insulating – advice/offer can be obtained from us.
Double Reducers
4.3. Double Reducers
Double casings are used, when on a pipe line there is mounted e.g. a valve which requires extra space.
As standard double casings have the same dimensions in both ends. Double casings can be found in two varieties: double shrinkable casing and double sliding casing.
The standard length of a double shrinkable casing is 1000 mm, whilst the double sliding casing can be found in standard lengths of 1000 mm, 1200 mm and 1400 mm. Other lengths can be supplied by way of special request.
It is only the ends of the shrinkable double casing in which it is shrinkable; they can be delivered wrapped in foil or with adhesive and in foil. Furthermore, double sealing can be achieved by using adhesive and shrinkable sleeves.
Insulation options are dependent on the sole purpose of insulating – advice/offers can be obtained from us.
Slutmuffer
4.4. Slutmuffer
End casings are used to complete a pipe line. End casings can be found in two varieties: shrinkable end casing and sliding end casing.
Standard dimensions range from Ø75 to Ø1000 mm and lengths of 500 mm and 700 mm.
Insulation to both varieties for single and double pipe systems can be delivered.
Shrinkable end casings can be found with: Adhesive Shrinkable sleeve Insulation
These parts can be combined as needed. If the shrinkable end casing is delivered with fitted adhesive it is always packed in a bag.
Sliding end casings can be found with: Shrinkable sleeves Insulation
